Village of Heritage Recycled Water Project
FONTANA, CALIFORNIA – On May 2, the Inland Empire Utilities Agency (IEUA), Cucamonga Valley Water District (CVWD) and the City of Fontana held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Village of Heritage Recycled Water Project.
The Village of Heritage Recycled Water Project is made possible through a regional partnership and will be funded in part by the State Water Resources Control Board.
The Project will install approximately 8,200 linear feet of pipeline in an effort to decrease the use of imported water in the City of Fontana. The pipeline will be an extension of the existing Baseline Recycled Water Pipeline that will extend east of Interstate 15 freeway to Cherry Avenue.
This landmark Project will enhance water supplies for the Village of Heritage and many communities within the City of Fontana in the years to come.
The use of recycled water presents multiple advantages to the region: it is one of the most significant unused local water supplies; it is reliable during drought and climate change conditions; and it requires significantly less energy than imported water for deliveries, thus reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
“IEUA, in partnership with its member agencies, has taken steps to maximize the use of recycled water, recognizing the critical role this drought resilient water supply plays in the long-term water security plan of the Chino Basin,” stated Michael Camacho, IEUA Board of Director. “Since the 1970s, IEUA began selling recycled water to large irrigation customers. Since 2000, IEUA and local water providers have invested in programs to expand deliveries of high-quality recycled water, thus improving the sustainability of the region’s water supply.”
“The Village of Heritage Recycled Water Project is part of an overall strategy to supplement our local water supplies,” stated Phillip Cothran, City of Fontana Council Member. “This project is good for Fontana and the surrounding communities.”
“The Cucamonga Valley Water District is committed to providing a reliable water supply to the nearly 200,000 people we serve,” stated Kathleen J. Tiegs, CVWD Board of Director. “Investing in and expanding the use of recycled water is an important strategy in fulfilling that commitment now and into the future. We are excited that the Village of Heritage will soon see the benefit of the hard work and partnership between CVWD, IEUA, and the City of Fontana.”
