INLAND EMPIRE, CA – During the November 5th Board Workshop, the Inland Empire Utilities Agency (IEUA) celebrated a distinguished group of industries for achieving exceptional 100% permit compliance in Wastewater Discharge throughout Calendar Year 2024.
IEUA permits Significant Industrial Users (SIUs) discharging to IEUA’s local Regional Sewer System, and jointly permits SIUs discharging to the Non-Reclaimable Wastewater System (NRWS) and Inland Empire Brine Line (Brine Line) in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts, Santa Ana Watershed Project Authority, and customer agencies.
SIUs are defined by federal regulations as industries that are subject to categorical pretreatment standards under Title 40 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), industries discharging 25,000 gallons or more per day of process wastewater, industries contributing a process waste stream comprising 5% or more of the average dry weather hydraulic or organic capacity of the treatment plant, or industries having a reasonable potential to adversely affect the treatment plant. The discharge requirements for SIUs, specified in the CFR, exceed local requirements for other industries. Moreover, many SIUs must operate pretreatment systems to ensure satisfactory treatment and maintain consistent compliance.
The commitment of these industries to environmental responsibility and strict regulatory adherence was formally recognized at IEUA’s Board meeting on November 5, 2025, where 32 Certificates of Recognition for Compliance were presented.
“The dedication of these 32 partners underscores the power of collaboration between industry, regulators, and our agency in safeguarding community health and natural resources,” stated Marco Tule, IEUA Board President. “Their continued adherence to responsible operations and environmental stewardship helps safeguard our region’s water quality, ensuring the long-term sustainability of our treatment systems.”
