INLAND EMPIRE, CA – Yesterday, the Inland Empire Utilities Agency (IEUA/Agency) held a celebration ceremony during the regularly scheduled Board Workshop honoring the Agency’s 75th anniversary – a milestone marking decades of partnership, progress, and commitment to preserving public health and supporting water supply reliability.

“What initially started as an effort by voters on June 6, 1950, to ensure that our region had access to imported water supplies has transformed into a forward-thinking water and wastewater treatment agency that continues to provide exceptional service to our community,” said IEUA Board Vice President Jasmin A. Hall. “From coordinating with the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California to provide imported water supplies to a growing community to now operating five regional wastewater treatment plants, a desalination plant, the largest indoor composting facility in North America, 46 groundwater recharge basins across 19 recharge sites, and a 22 acre wetlands park serving over 3,000 students annually, the Agency has truly embraced innovation and sustainability to meet the challenges of a growing population, changing and extreme weather conditions, and increasing demands.”

Formerly known as the Chino Basin Municipal Water District, IEUA prides itself on providing essential services in a regionally planned and cost-effective manner, while safeguarding public health, supporting community needs, and protecting the environment. Today, the Agency is responsible for serving approximately 950,000 people over 242 square miles in western San Bernardino County.

“The Metropolitan Water District congratulates the Inland Empire Utilities Agency on 75 years of service and partnership,” said Metropolitan Board Chair Adán Ortega, Jr. “From your early vision as the Chino Basin Municipal Water District to your leadership in water recycling and conservation today, IEUA has been instrumental in advancing water reliability for the Inland Empire and all of Southern California. We look forward to continuing our collaboration for the next 75 years and beyond.”

With the theme of Celebrating 75 Years of Partnership and Progress, the special Board Workshop highlighted collaboration, strategy, and long-term vision as IEUA and its partners continue to work together to address the complex challenges facing the region. Attendees included regional partners, customer agencies, stakeholders, IEUA staff, and members of the public.

“The work our staff does, often behind the scenes, ensures that families, businesses, and the local community have access to a high-quality, reliable water supply, and that our environment is protected for generations to come,” continued Hall. “We’re celebrating not only the remarkable history of this Agency, but also the partnership and progress that have shaped our work and our mission over the last seven and a half decades. Thank you to those who have been a part of our journey; we look forward to continuing this collaboration into our next 75 years.”
