Chino, CA – The Inland Empire Utilities Agency (IEUA/Agency) honors the life and legacy of former Board President John L. Anderson, whose 32 years of public service on the IEUA Board of Directors helped guide the Agency through one of the most significant periods of growth and innovation in its history.

Anderson served on the IEUA Board of Directors, formerly known as the Chino Basin Municipal Water District, from 1979 to 2011. During his tenure, IEUA expanded its leadership in water recycling, groundwater replenishment, renewable energy, environmental stewardship, and regional collaboration while investing in infrastructure that continues to strengthen water reliability throughout the Inland Empire.

Throughout those three decades, the Agency reached several defining milestones, including adopting the Inland Empire Utilities Agency name in 1998 to reflect the Agency’s evolution from a supplemental water supplier to a regional leader in water resource management, expanding recycled water and groundwater replenishment programs, and developing the Agency’s current Headquarters campus and Regional Water Recycling Plant No. 5. The Headquarters became the nation’s first LEED Platinum-certified public agency headquarters, reflecting IEUA’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and responsible stewardship while helping establish the Agency as a recognized leader in water resource management. Anderson also served as the founding Chairman of the Inland Empire Regional Composting Authority (IERCA), helping establish a regional partnership that advanced the beneficial reuse of biosolids and led to what is now the nation’s largest indoor composting facility.

“John Anderson’s thirty-two years of service on our Board is only a part of his extraordinary commitment to serving our communities,” said IEUA Board President Steve Elie. “John devoted much of his life to the success of the Agency and the people of the Region. His leadership helped shape an important chapter in IEUA’s history, and we are proud to honor his service and remember his many outstanding contributions to water security and innovative solutions.”

“Every chapter in IEUA’s history has been shaped by those who chose to serve,” said IEUA General Manager Kevin Alexander. “John Anderson’s years of service helped build the strong foundation on which we continue to grow today. We are proud to carry that work forward in service to the communities of the Inland Empire.”

IEUA extends its sincere condolences to the Anderson family, friends, and former colleagues.
