INLAND EMPIRE, CA – Throughout the month of July, the Inland Empire Utilities Agency (IEUA/Agency) will be recognizing Smart Irrigation Month. Founded in 2005 by the Irrigation Association®, Smart Irrigation Month highlights the benefits of efficient irrigation and the importance of water-use efficiency during a month historically known to reach peak demands for outdoor water-use.
“IEUA is committed to encouraging wise water usage throughout the region, which includes providing ways to irrigate efficiently,” stated IEUA Board President Marco Tule. “Although drought conditions have subsided, we must remain mindful of water-use efficiency efforts to support long-term water supply needs. Outdoor water use can account for approximately 60 percent of total household water use. This month serves as a great reminder for residents to reevaluate their irrigation systems and implement water-wise solutions that benefit our region.”
In honor of Smart Irrigation Month, IEUA and its Customer Agencies have partnered to offer free hose nozzles to residents while supplies last. Using an automatic shut-off hose nozzle allows you to turn the hose on and off as needed to reduce water use by approximately five to seven gallons per minute. Most hose nozzles also allow you to adjust water pressure and direction of flow to provide for increased functionality.
Participating water providers include:
- City of Chino
- City of Chino Hills
- City of Fontana

“IEUA takes pride in its efforts to provide practical water-wise solutions that help set our region and the State up for continued success. Using an automatic shut-off hose nozzle is one easy change I’ve implemented in my household and serves as a reminder that we can all make a difference. There is no better time than now to change our habits for us all to do our part to save water,” continued Tule.
