Solar Cup is an education program in which high school teams, sponsored by The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) and its member agencies, learn about water conservation and renewable energy by building and racing solar-powered boats during a seven-month period. As part of the program, the teams research and complete various technical reports and create a water-related public service announcement. The program culminates in a three-day competition, including both sprint and endurance races at Lake Skinner, located in Temecula. The culminating Solar Cup races will take place May 19-21, 2017.
The Inland Empire Utilities Agency is proud to co-sponsor the following four high school teams this year: Chino High School in the city of Chino, Chino Hills High School in the city of Chino Hills, Henry J. Kaiser High School in the city of Fontana, and Los Osos High School in the city of Rancho Cucamonga.
