The Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Chino Basin Desalter Authority is held quarterly, on the first Thursday of the month in January, April, July, and September at 6:00 pm, at the City of Ontario Council Chambers, 303 “B” Street, Ontario.

Chino I Desalter Current Operations

Groundwater is pumped from 14 wells throughout the Chino Basin area to the Desalter, where reverse osmosis, a purification process that many commercial bottled water companies use, will clean the water to drinking water standards. This high-quality water is then pumped into the municipal water supply systems for the cities of Chino, Chino Hills, and Norco, and into the Jurupa Community Services District water system. The Chino Desalter Plant produces 14 million gallons per day of high-quality drinking water, serving 35,000 families. Approximately 2 million gallons per day of brine, a byproduct of reverse osmosis, is transported by a regional brine line and subsequently discharged to the ocean.

  • Chino I Desalter Expansion Project

    • An increased demand in contracted water deliveries to the City of Chino Hills, the City of Chino, JCSD, the City of Norco, and the City of Ontario necessitated the expansion of the Chino I Desalter. In order to increase the capacity of the facility, an ion exchange treatment system was determined to be the best alternative to achieve the water quality objective for the treatment plant. The addition of the Ion Exchange Treatment system will increase Chino I Desalter’s product water flow from 8.4 MGD to 14.2 MGD. The expansion project was completed in August 2005.

  • Chino II Desalter Project

    • The Chino II Desalter was initiated by the CDA to provide 10,400 acre-feet per year of water deliveries to Jurupa Community Services District, the City of Ontario, the City of Norco and the Santa Ana River Water Company. The Chino II Desalter is located at 11202 Harrel Street in Mira Loma, California. Groundwater from eight wells in the Mira Loma area is treated by reverse osmosis (6 MGD) and ion exchange treatment systems (4 MGD). Construction of the Chino II Desalter facilities is expected to be completed by January 2006.
