The Public Information Department has a mission to establish and strengthen relations with news media, elected officials, business and civic organizations and general members of the public in order to enhance public awareness of the Agency's programs, projects and services.

While focusing on the Department's mission, staff develops and organizes educational outreach programs, regional/community/Agency/networking events (Water Fair, dedications, groundbreakings, Leadership Breakfast, Earth Day, Blood Drives, workshops), media articles/ads, press releases, newsletters, schedules tours and field trips, develops IEUA's Annual report, develops brochures, etc. Staff also attends outside agency leadership events, chamber luncheons, etc. in order to network and share ideas and information regarding IEUA.

The Garden in Every School® program has been successful by supplying approximately forty schools with water-wise gardens. This grant program allows for schools to provide an outdoor learning environment while teaching about water education.

The Water Discovery Field Trip Program reached over 800 students last year while anticipating over 1,000 students to be reached this year. This field trip takes place in the Chino Creek Wetlands and Educational Park and can be combined with a treatment plant tour.

Some of the committees and initiatives the PIO department is involved in include: Media Outreach Campaign, Water Education Water Awareness Committee, MWD PIO Meetings, MWD Education Meetings, Regional Water-Wise Plant initiative with Home Depot, member agency conservation workgroup, and more.
