Water Softener Removal Program

Protecting our local water supplies is essential to the future success of our communities. Water softeners that require bags of salt are a danger to our most sustainable and drought-proof supply: recycled water. But you can still have your water softener—just without the salt!

This is why the Inland Empire Utilities Agency has created the Salt-Based Water Softener Removal Program. As a result on July 20, 2011 IEUA adopted a new regional ordinance prohibiting the new installation or replacement of salt-based self-regenerating water softeners to protect the future of our water supplies.  IEUA is also offering a rebate valued up to $2000 and free professional water softener removal service for the voluntary removal of self-generating water softeners (link to rebate).

If you have any further questions about the self-regenerating water softener rebate program or want more information about recycled water, you may call the IEUA at 909-993-1550 or email at softenerrebate@ieua.org.
